What You Will Learn
The Bachelor of Science in Medical Lab Science is a unique multi-institution program housed within the College of Natural and Health Sciences. This program provides preparatory coursework for students through the first 82 credit hours. During the last semester of this phase on campus, they compete for seats in the final year of the program at one of our affiliated institutions, where they complete the final year of instruction at an operating medical laboratory teaching institution. Upon completion, students are prepared to receive the bachelor’s degree and sit for the National Board of Examination through the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
What Will I Learn In This Program?
- Human anatomy and physiology for application in the medical field with an emphasis on blood and immunology
- Functional knowledge of medical laboratory equipment and environments, especially use of microscopes and instruments that measure various aspects of blood and other bodily fluids
- Medical terminology
- Fundamental understanding of genetics, organic chemistry, biochemistry, including chemistry of blood and other bodily fluids
- Analysis of laboratory specimens and interpretation of associated data

Where Might I Find A Job After Graduating From This Program?
Those who pass the national board exam will be qualified to provide services in a variety of medical environments including doctors’ offices, hospitals, and pathology labs. Often the affiliate institution that taught the last year of the degree will make offers to many of the graduating class. Others are recruited by other hospitals, and salaries are competitive.
